Hey, Gwyn enthusiasts and blood magic fans! If you’ve been hooked on my spellbinding The Price of Magic series, prepare for the jaw-dropping finale you’ve all been waiting for! 🎉

Published on 16 March this year, “The Last Sorceress” is the epic conclusion that brings a spectacular end to this incredible journey.

A Journey Worth the Wait

Writing this series has been a monumental journey, to say the least. From Gwyn’s harrowing battles against the risen dead to the fracturing, to some hardcore sorceress vs. sorceress action, it’s been a narrative close to my heart. “One sorceress fractured the world. Two may be enough to doom it.” I can’t wait for you to see how it all unfolds.

My Characters, Your Heroes

Gwyn, Alcide, Lucian and the whole cast have lived in my imagination for years, and bringing them to life on paper has been a surreal experience. I’m incredibly excited for you to delve deeper into their lives, trials, and the difficult choices they have to make, especially as lives are lost and ancient enemies align for the final showdown.

A Massive Thank You!

I couldn’t have come this far without the unwavering support from all of you—my readers, friends, and family. Your enthusiasm, reviews, and word-of-mouth recommendations have been the magical ingredients to the series’ success. Thank you for accompanying me on this remarkable journey.

Why You Shouldn’t Miss the Grand Finale

The conclusion of the Price of Magic saga answers the questions you’ve been dying to know and poses new ones that’ll have you pondering long after you’ve turned the last page. Magic comes at a price, and in this final book, you’ll find out if Gwyn is ready to pay it.

So, What Are You Waiting For?

With the fate of the world hanging in the balance, “The Last Sorceress” promises an exhilarating end to this magical journey. Get your copy here.

Till our next magical adventure, 📚✨

The Stars Beyond the Stone https://bonniewynne.com/2022/04/24/the-stars-beyond-the-stone/ Sun, 24 Apr 2022 12:11:20 +0000 https://bonniewynne.com/?p=1484 Did you know the fourth book in the Price of Magic saga is coming out in just a few short weeks? I know!! Where does the time go? For me, that means a lot of work making blog posts and newsletters and cover reveals and promo materials… but for you, it means it’s a great time kick back and get up to date on the rest of the series.

If you haven’t read Book 3, The Stars Beyond the Stone, now is the time. You can get it as an ebook, a paperback, an audiobook; you can get it any old how. Matter of fact, I’ve got it now.

In case you’re wondering what it’s about, here’s the short ‘n sweet:

The Scions roam free, and only the sorceress can hunt them…

After the battle with storm god Molech Suun, a city is in ruins and a new Archmage holds the Syndicate’s leash.

But while Gwyn has accepted her fate – to hunt down and destroy the remaining Scions – her loyalty is still to her old master Faolan, held captive by a cunning necromancer.

Saving Faolan means leaving the wizards and the Clockwork City behind.

With the shapeshifter Lucian at her side, Gwyn embarks on a dangerous journey across the sea, to lands where pirate kings rule and wild magic sings.

But sorceresses are heir to a dark legacy of blood – and Gwyn soon finds that she’s the one being hunted.

The Scions want her dead, and a new enemy sends threats and warnings that can’t be ignored.

As Gwyn struggles to balance her desires and her destiny, she finds herself unprepared for what awaits her beyond the city walls.

And far to the south, amid the ashes of a fallen kingdom, a familiar foe is setting deadly plans in motion…

The Stars Beyond the Stone is the dazzling third instalment in Bonnie Wynne’s epic fantasy saga, The Price of Magic.

And if that’s not enough to whet your whistle, how about a totally free prequel novella? Just sign up to the Talem Press newsletter and get it delivered straight to your inbox. I don’t get paid for this. Nobody does. It’s a gift, straight from my brain to yours.

Before the Ninth Sorceress, there was…

Ailbhe Ahriddin. A name steeped in blood. An empire poised to fall. And a sorceress at war with the monster inside.

Torn between two destinies, with her world on the brink of annihilation, Ailbhe must choose whose side she’s on… and what she’s willing to sacrifice for the people she rules.

Aurealis Award Nominee! https://bonniewynne.com/2021/04/19/aurealis-award-nominee/ Mon, 19 Apr 2021 02:04:05 +0000 https://bonniewynne.com/?p=1461 Have you heard the news? Netherfield Park is let at last — and The Ninth Sorceress is an Aurealis Award Nominee! Yep – she’s up for Best Fantasy Novel of 2020.

I am, to say the least, amazed. Small first novels from indie publishers don’t usually get noticed for any kind of awards, much less the most prestigious genre awards in Australia. The other nominees in my category include past winners, super-popular authors from big publishers, and, um, GARTH NIX. Absolutely bonkers that I used to read his books after school in the library and now I’m running against him in the country’s biggest fantasy award.

As the underdog I have no expectation of actually winning my category, but I’m thrilled to be nominated. When I got the news on April 1st I was pretty sure I was the victim of an elaborate April Fools. Me, Bonnie Wynne, sitting at the table with the best writers in the biz.

BIG thank you to the judges who put me there, and the readers who’ve been so wonderful in supporting my little wizard book. It’s probably the most exciting thing that’s ever happened to me. So, you know. Thank you.

A Wind From The Rift now live! https://bonniewynne.com/2020/11/19/a-wind-from-the-rift-now-live/ Thu, 19 Nov 2020 05:00:00 +0000 https://bonniewynne.com/?p=1380 The long-anticipated – (or at least, anticipated for the last few months) – sequel to The Ninth Sorceress is out today. Hurrah!

In case you’re not up to date, here’s the synopsis:

The sorceress has broken free of her shackles.

Months of imprisonment have forged Gwyn into something new; something dangerous. Eight dead sorceresses whisper in her ear, hungry for blood and vengeance – and after unleashing the red magic to make her escape, she fears she won’t be able to stop.

All Gwyn really wants is to go home. But as she soon discovers, escaping the Clockwork City may prove an impossible task. The wizards of the Syndicate wage a silent, bloody war over her fate, and to survive, she must play their deadly game.

As strange storms ravage the city and wizards start turning up dead, Gwyn finds herself in more danger than ever. With enemies on every side, the immortal Scions massing their armies, and the dark power inside her growing stronger, she must make a choice… To save everything she loves, is she willing to become the monster the Syndicate fears?

A Wind from the Rift is the electrifying second volume in Bonnie Wynne’s spellbinding fantasy series, The Price of Magic.

And here’s what the coterie of brilliant advance reviewers are saying:

Dianne from Tome Tender says:

Dark, grim and yet, still spell binding, this addition to the series is just as emotionally taut, richly detailed and raw as book one, but this time out, Ms. Wynne has stepped up her game and enriched the story into a finely woven fantasy with an ever stronger heroine… Brilliant creative writing has gone into this tale and the author has done an amazing job of letting readers become part of the story. Highly recommended fantasy for all ages.

Nikki (Read and Wander) says:

Wynne’s writing is dynamic and held a few twists I had not seen coming. While I was hooked from the very first chapter, the last third of the book was the definition of ‘unputdownable.’ It was like being on a bullet train that hit stop speed… then the breaks go out. I could not stop reading until I reached the end… at 3am. THAT ENDING. THAT ENDING!!

Kat (Bookish Blades) says:

The characters, the fast pace and the magic were an amazing, delicious mixture. Even though I had to get back into the story first, once I was, the book transfixed me and I read it in two sittings. I could not stop reading, it really was a bit addictive. For me, it was the perfect second book!

Announcing: ‘A Wind from the Rift’ https://bonniewynne.com/2020/07/03/announcing-a-wind-from-the-rift/ Fri, 03 Jul 2020 00:16:03 +0000 https://bonniewynne.com/?p=1362 Aaaaahhh!

I’m so excited to finally share the title of The Price of Magic: Book 2. ‘A Wind from the Rift’ was my working title, but frankly, it just suited the book, so we decided to keep it. I think it has a cool, slightly vintage feel, like maybe it was written by Robin Hobb or Robert Jordan (basically, a better author than me).

‘A Wind from the Rift’ is scheduled to launch on 19 November 2020. In the current COVID environment, that might be subject to change, but so far it’s looking good. Two books out in one year! What a busy bee I am.

I’ll be revealing the cover and the blurb a little later, and my mailing list subscribers will be the first to see them. Haven’t signed up yet? Pop your email address in below. I send an email about once every two months, so you don’t have to worry about getting spammed. I’m too lazy for that. Also, if you’re on Instagram, shoot me a DM and I’ll add you to my close friends list! It’s for mailing list subscribers only so it’s very exclusive.

The Ninth Sorceress on Audiobook! https://bonniewynne.com/2020/06/10/the-ninth-sorceress-on-audiobook/ Wed, 10 Jun 2020 00:15:32 +0000 https://bonniewynne.com/?p=1332 Yep, you heard me. Everybody’s favourite sorceress is coming very soon to Audible, Kobo, iTunes, and all the places you usually find audiobooks.

Right now, it’s available for preorder, to be released 16 June. That’s next week, for those following along at home. Apparently you have to be a bestseller for a certain amount of time before you get offered an audiobook deal, so, not to boast, but clearly I’m a Very Successful Author.

So, am I going to listen to it? Haha, no, that’s too weird. Apparently Johnny Depp has never watched any of his movies, either.

But you should listen for me! And then tell me what it’s like! If you already own the Kindle version, you can get it at a lower Whispersync for Voice price. Otherwise, you can just buy it outright or with your usual credits.

I’ve inserted a little sample below. Click to listen. And turn your sound on, obviously. The narrator is Elizabeth Klett. She’s British! Looking forward to seeing how she tackles Lucian’s Scottish-ish accent.

Cool, huh? So what are you waiting for? Grab your copy now so you’ll be ready to go for the big launch next week.

The Ninth Sorceress on Audible.

Launching a book during a global pandemic https://bonniewynne.com/2020/04/27/launching-a-book-during-a-global-pandemic/ Mon, 27 Apr 2020 01:27:07 +0000 https://bonniewynne.com/?p=1294 Okay — things didn’t really hit the fan until March. I just managed to scrape my book launch into the back end of February. But damn! This was not a lucky time to be launching a book!

Now, as a small-press author, I don’t depend on bookstore sales (although I was the number-one bestseller in Better Read Than Dead during my launch week — hello!). And unlike many authors publishing around this time, my launch wasn’t cancelled. I did miss out on one festival appearance that would have netted a whole bunch of sales—was meant to be judging a SLAM poetry competition in April—but I’m not one of those super-famous authors whose whole ‘thing’ is book tours and con appearances.

But there’s no denying that the downturn in the market is making the tough job of ‘author’ even tougher. Despite some early signs that widespread quarantine was giving book sales a bump (industry revenue for the week ending 28 March was up 15%), there’s been a sharp drop-off in the following weeks. Adult fiction is doing better than trade nonfiction, but the fantasy market in Australia was never exactly robust to begin with. People have lost jobs, and those who still have jobs are tightening the purse strings. And prolonged isolation messes with your concentration. When the world outside is so crazy, it’s hard to even focus on reading. We’re glued to the news and the brainless scroll of our Instagram feeds.

Now if you’re read all that and feel quite sorry for me, don’t! I still have a job (a new one, in fact). And I’m psychologically very fit for isolation. This is my normal lifestyle.

But if you’d like to support an Australian small press author during your time in isolation, well, let me help you help me.

Buy The Ninth Sorceress on Amazon

This is great because you don’t have to leave the house. The Ninth Sorceress will come straight to you, like a gentle carrier pigeon, carrying tales of far-off lands.

Or if you’re sick of me (understandable), here’s some other great local authors who could really use your support:

Buy Dawn of Mist by Helen Scheuerer

Helen just released her short story collection, set in the world of the Oremere Chronicles. Short stories are perfect for keeping your brain busy if your concentration is too wiped to handle a longer read. And who doesn’t want to revisit Bleak and the gang?

Buy Relic by Bronwyn Eley

The follow-up, Riven, is coming out very soon. This is your chance to get up to speed. I love this story! As the blurb says, this is for fans of ‘dark fantasy, strong heroines, slow-burning tension and plot twists that will leave you reeling.’

Buy The Crowning by Nattie Kate Mason

I’ve been meaning to read these for ages, but time continues to escape me. What I do know is that these books have a devoted fan base, and that Nattie Kate Mason is just about one of the nicest authors on Instagram. Book 3 launches next month. A good time for some catch-up reading, I say.
